LCA Food 2020

LCA Food 2020

The 12th International LCA Food Conference, with the motto "Towards sustainable agri-food systems", took place for the first time as a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was organised by the German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL e.V.) together with corsus-corporate sustainability GmbH, the ZNU Centre for Sustainable Leadership at the University of Witten/Herdecke and Sphera.

On 13 October 2020, the on-site part of the LCA Food Conference was opened by Dr. Sergiy Smetana (DIL), Dr. Ulrike Eberle (corsus & ZNU) and Dr. Ulrike Bos (Sphera). More than 300 participants from all over the world attended the virtual conference. They enjoyed the opportunity to discuss current research with experts from all over the world during the various discussion forums and via chats. The lectures and poster contributions were available online for two months, and the respective presenters could be contacted directly via the chat function, which was used in a lively manner.

Thanks to the virtual format, around 500 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions were avoided because participants did not need to travel to and from the conference.
